The Green Gardener Program educates local gardeners in resource efficient and pollution prevention landscape maintenance practices. The Green Gardener Program is designed to offer education, training, and promotion of participating gardeners and landscape maintenance contractors.  Below is a growing list of participating regions.

This program began as the Green Gardener Certification Program in Santa Barbara County on March 2000. The goal of the program was to educate and certify local gardeners in resource efficient and pollution prevention landscape management practices. In 2005, with support from the State Water Resources Control Board, Ecology Action collaborated with the Santa Barbara Program to standardize the bi-lingual curriculum and implement the program in the Monterey Bay area. 

The Monterey Bay Green Gardener Program provides professional training and certification in ecological landscaping. The program goals are to reduce reliance on synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, reduce water pollution and encourage water conservation. Clients using Green Gardening services benefit from improved landscape health, appearance and value.

The Green Gardener Program for Santa Barbara County educates local gardeners in resource efficient and pollution prevention landscape maintenance practices. The Green Gardener Program is a regional program designed to offer education, training, and promotion of participating gardeners and landscape maintenance contractors.

Gardeners attend the Green Gardener class through Santa Barbara City College District Continuing Education Division (Adult Education) in Santa Barbara or Allan Hancock College in Santa Maria.

The class covers topics on resource efficient and pollution prevention landscape maintenance practices. The class is held twice per year and is taught bilingually in both English and Spanish. The class format is ten 2.5-hour sessions with class and field time.

Santa Clara Valley Green Gardeners have received training to:

• Use resources wisely,  conserve water, protect the soil, and reduce waste
• Improve the health, appearance and value of landscapes
• Reduce urban runoff and stormwater pollution from landscape maintenance activities
